Case Study
Northgate provided complete assessment, characterization, and remediation services during redevelopment of a 50-acre shopping center in San Jose. The site formerly consisted of orchards and other agricultural land prior to initial development in the early 1960s. Contaminants at the site included pesticides, lead, and arsenic. Cleanup goals were established for both unrestricted residential land use areas and for commercial development areas based on a site-specific health risk evaluation. Using those goals and targeted site characterization studies, impacted soils were effectively identified, isolated, and encapsulated in proposed commercial development areas. Clean soils were relocated to unrestricted residential development areas of the site. More than 250,000 cubic yards of soil were moved during site grading with no construction or development delays related to environmental issues.
