Case Study
This project
involved the redevelopment of a 59-acre site that previously
supported a railroad maintenance yard, a service station, a
bus and truck repair operation, several warehouse structures,
and a construction yard. As part of the development activities,
25,000 cubic yards of soil were excavated and capped onsite
in accordance with a regulatory-approved soil containment plan.
The project scope consisted of the design and oversight of the
geotechnical and environmental aspects of the project, including
coordination with the developer's general contractor, several
lessees' contractors, several architects, and city agencies.
Remedial activities included the construction of a deep groundwater
extraction trench and treatment system, and the removal of six
underground storage tanks. Geotechnical services included monitoring
soil placement and observing and approving all foundation excavations,
deep foundation placement, building pad construction, roadway
and utility earthwork activities, and the extension of an adjacent
city-owned throughway.
